  Dan Welch
  Unit Director

Dan Welch has worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County in a variety of capacities since 1992, and is currently Unit Director of our Valparaiso facility beginning May of 2003.  As such, Dan oversees all daily operations of the Valparaiso Club.   His favorite activity throughout the years has been taking Torch Club members camping at Camp Crosley.
 
Dan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from Purdue University and is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Academy at both the Youth Development and Management Professional levels.  Dan has been recognized for his work with the very distinguished award of the Man & Youth Award in 2012.  Dan grew up as a member of the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club for six years. 
 
Dan lives in Hebron with his wife and dog Eskimo.  He also has three grown step-children.
 
 
  Tommy John
  Program Director

Tommy John has been Program League Director as of August 2012 and is currently is responsible for coordinating all athletic leagues and programs.  He also supervises other aspects of club programming.  First hired at our Portage Club in September of 2011 to lead the Mitch’s Kids and Link & Learn education programs, Tommy also coached both soccer and basketball while at Portage. 
 
Tommy received his Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Purdue University.  While at Purdue, he was voted Best Behavioral Motivator out of all student teachers. During college, he also helped raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, domestic violence prevention, cystic fibrosis, and many other charitable causes. 
 
Building relationships with members and being a mentor are two very important aspects of Tommy’s work here.  "When children come to talk to me about their lives”, he says, "I know I am someone who can truly make in impact”.  Tommy is an avid sports fan.  His favorite teams include the Bears, Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks, Portland Timbers, and Bayern Munchen.  He is such a big Cubs fan, that he named his dog Wrigley.
 
 
Joy Davis
Membership Secretary

Joy Davis has been the Membership Secretary at our Valparaiso Club since August 2012.  She is responsible for processing all membership applications, keeping memberships updated and renewed, making sure members sign into and out of the Club every day, and answering calls.

 

Joy started working with children as a summer day camp counselor, she taught Sunday school children and was an administrative assistant at a Christian School. Joy's favorite part of working for the Club is talking with the children and creating educational games for them to play.
 
Joy is married and has 2 step children who are current members of the South Haven Club where she was a member growing up.
