Program Information
Normal club hours this time of year:
Monday - Friday:  2:30 pm - 8:20 pm.  (6 - 7 year-olds must be picked up by 7:00 pm on school nights.)
Saturday and Sunday:  Closed

Unit History
  • A capital campaign was successful in raising $1,133,902 from 212 businesses and individuals in the Portage / Porter County community. The John Will Anderson Foundation awarded us a grant in the amount of $575,000, and we broke ground for a new club at 5895 Evergreen Avenue on Thursday, May 23, 1996.
  • The Portage Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County opened its doors on December 26th, 1996.
  • In 1999, we received a $200,000 donation for a 7,000 square foot gym addition.
  • A new gym was added and opened in December of 2001.
  • In January of 2002, each Club in Porter County received 10 computers for their computer labs. The state of the art computers were donated by Power Up, a national partnership of computer hardware and software companies attempting to help bridge the digital divide.

  • Facility size: 26,000 square feet; including Gamesrooms, Learning Center, Computer Lab, Link & Learn Room, Arts & Crafts, Kitchen/Lounge, 2 Gyms, and a Teen Room.
  • Club open: 30 hours per week, 231 days per year.
  • Club membership: 633 (As of December 31, 2012)
  • 1069 total members served in 2012
  • Ages served: 6 - 18.
  • Age breakdown: 51% 6 - 9 year olds, 36% 10 - 12 year olds, 13% Teens.
  • Gender: 56% male, 44% female.
  • Average daily attendance: 177 during the 2012 year
